Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming industries, economies, and societies at an unprecedented pace. While governments, international organizations, and private sector actors recognize the need for regulation, a fragmented global landscape complicates efforts to create a unified framework.   • The government released a “Pro-Innovation AI White Paper” (2023), proposing flexible, principles-based AI regulation rather than prescriptive laws like the EU’s AI Act.

Canada:

  • The Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA) is in progress, aiming to regulate high-impact AI systems.
  • Canada focuses on risk mitigation, algorithmic transparency, and consumer protection, aligning with the EU’s principles but adopting a lighter regulatory touch.

India:

  • India does not have a comprehensive AI law but relies on sector-specific policies and data protection laws.

  • South Korea is working on an AI Act, balancing consumer protection with support for AI industries.

    Several challenges hinder effective AI governance at the global level:
